Never in a million years would I have thought I to do a “Boudoir” photo shoot.  Like many women, I have struggled my entire life with body image issues.  I fight every day to feel comfortable in my own skin–which make me quite self conscience and conservative with my body.  Luckily, I have a very understanding and supportive husband.  He loves  me despite my insecurities and has done his very best to build my self esteem.  He sees me so differently than I see myself!  He loves ME–which includes my shape and size.

As our 15 year wedding anniversary approached, I thought very deeply about what I could do for my husband to show him my appreciation for his commitment to our marriage, to our family, and to “us” as a couple.  A friend suggested I consider a Boudoir photo shoot.  I immediately thought, “NO WAY!”  I am not what anyone would consider “model” material.  I am 5 feet tall and full figured.  No long, sleek lines on this girl!  How could I possibly look good in pictures like that?   My second thought was to wonder how I might ever feel comfortable enough in front of someone in so little clothing?!?  Would this be something I could actually do?

I realized that this was exactly what I NEEDED to do. Although it would be completely out of my comfort zone–it would be ALL FOR HIM.  I booked an appointment. I was open and honest with you about my apprehension.   You did an amazing job “coaching” me through my shoot.  I sat in complete awe as you revealed the photos to me one week later.

However, nothing could prepare me for my husbands face when he was presented with his gift!  It was priceless! He was completely amazed that I would do that for him.  He says that its the best gift he has EVER been given. They aren’t just beautiful pictures.  To us, they symbolize much more.

I am  so glad I had the courage to come and see you.  Thank you for being so kind and gracious–for creating a comfortable atmosphere at the shoot and for taking the types of pictures you knew I would be completely comfortable with.  I hope you are able to help many more women like myself become more comfortable, confident, and proud of their bodies!

Maternity Boudoir

Sometimes I think boudoir photography couldn’t get any more fun, and then I meet girls like this one.  Each woman is unique, one of a kind, special and beautiful and I consider it a privilege to be their photographer of choice and help them create a unique gift for that special man in their lives.  I connect on a certain level with each one, but this lovely young woman and I really had fun.  After her fabulous hair and makeup session with Ellie at Studio Bella Rouge (conveniently next door), we took a look at what she brought to wear,  turned on the music, the lights and began to work.  I have a list of several basic poses, but because I can get bored easily if there is too much repetition, I tend to take the norm and go beyond.  But that is what photography is – it is exploring light and emotion, among other things.  There are always “ah ha” moments, and I think I had more than my share with Lady M.  Hey…stop the talking, and let me share!  These are a few pages from her album…

And then, it is my turn to play (no, it is not work!).  I spend roughly 90-120 minutes on average with each girl – using light to shape,  a variety of poses – reminding them to exaggerate everything and smile, laugh, look intense, turn this way, nose to the light, back to the light, bend this way, lay on your tummy, side, back….

At then the session is over, they pack up their sweet little outfits and we talk about how they will explain their sexy makeup and hairdo to the man in their life, and then schedule their premier when they will come back in to the studio.

For some the viewing is more nervewracking that being half naked in front of a stranger!  (Ten minutes into the session, we are NOT strangers!  LOL)   The reaction and response to each viewing is always positive, they are excited and happy to see the results.  But sometimes, their reaction catches me off guard.    Today  I asked one of the girls how she felt after the session – she told me it was just what she needed -  I asked why.  She went on to share about some personal challenges she has faced recently, and how she was feeling about herself – and how looking sexy and having her Fancy Pants session made her feel so much better about herself. 

How did she benefit from having a boudoir session?  Self confidence and feeling of worth and beauty.  What did I get out of it?  Possibly  more than she did – reassurance that I am using God given ability and passion to make someone feel good, sexy, beautiful and worthy!  Wow! 

Ladies, thank you for what you do for me!
